Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid year, managing just a single victory at the major tournaments and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His inconsistency on the tennis tour - and issues with his service game in especial - caused him dropping out of the world's top 10 and ultimately separating with former mentor Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with his coach and Rohan Goetzke, he has steadily advanced in the recent weeks - peaking in a closely contested 7-5 4-6 6-3 triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This represents the player's initial title following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface from that period of 2023.

Success also indicates Medvedev has won 21 victories at 21 distinct events.

"This marks the first occasion I have attended a competition with my children together, so to secure a championship is particularly special," commented ranked player the champion.

"This championship is in dedication of my younger daughter her name, because the first title I got when my older daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in that event earlier this year.

The player's defensive play style and frequent reactions on the playing surface had led some to doubt if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

However the player has altered his approach in recent weeks, striving to come to the net and play aggressively, supported by an improved service.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the concluding five games to gain the advantage.

The competitors swapped service breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his first professional championship, seized the initiative to push for a decider.

He saved four early chances in a close deciding set before the Russian broke to 15 to secure the win.

Suitably, the winner earned the title with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
